Corporate Arms: District Councils 1973-1996: Borders Region

The 48 District Councils were granted a simple shield surmounted of a District Council's crown:

a circlet richly chased from which are issuant eight thistle heads (three and two halves visible) Or






 Berwickshire District Council (vol 59 fol 40)


Argent on a mount Vert a bear Sable collared Or, standing in front of a tree proper.

Ettrick & Lauderdale (Vol 59 fol 35)

Argent on a mount in base a stag lodged reguardant in front of an oak tree all proper, the tree charged of an inescutcheon of the arms of the Earl of Lauderdale, viz. Or a lion rampant Gules couped at all his joints of the field within the Royal Tressure Azure.

Roxburgh District Council (vol 59 fol 16)


Azure a unicorn salient Argent, horned, maned and unguled Or, the tail tufted of the Last on a chief of the Second a hunting horn Sable, stringed and viroled Gules, between two esquire's helmets of the field.

Tweeddale District Council (vol 59 fol 44)

Quarterly 1st: Sable five fraises Argent; 2nd: Azure,  horse's head couped Argent; 3rd: Vert a golden fleece; 4th: Or fretty Gules a chief embattled of the Last charged with two thunderbolts of the First.
