Church Heraldry

The mainstream churches in Scotland are now richly endowed with heraldry - all seven Scottish Episcopal Dioceses have arms recorded as have the Church of Scotland and the Moderator of the General Assembly, as well as the Catholic Dioceses.

The last year or so has seen the last of the eight Catholic dioceses - the very historic diocese of Galloway - granted arms while the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh has been re-granted arms to bring them into a sort of heraldic family with many of the other archdioceses of these islands -  Dublin, Armagh, Westminster, Liverpool, Birmingham, and Cardiff - which use a pall, like an archiepiscopal pallium as the principal charge.
