Local Government Heraldry 1996- present

The Local Government (Scotland) Act of 1994 (c.39 ) saw the unlamented end of the Regional behemoths. The island Councils remained as they were, while another 29 unitary authorities were forged out of the remainder. All but two of the 32 Councils have now recorded arms - a testimony to the persuasive powers of Lyon Innes of Edingight and Lyon Clerk Roads. It is hoped that the remaining two, Aberdeenshire and East Renfrewshire - will complete the set before long.
