As well as showing us some marvellous images of highlights in John's career as an officer of arms, like the heralds and pursuivants at the pluvian Royal Diamond Jubilee events on the Thames, and last year's appearance of Clan Hay at the Tattoo, Eilean's talk was a warm and witty account of the history of the Society with great pictures of Flemish excursions etc.
Underlying all Eilean's humour, of course, was the fact that she is herself an heraldic scholar of international reputation and there was a great deal of scholarly information imparted with that lightness of touch which is Eilean's hallmark - like the dating of armorials by their watermarks and some of the subtler distinctions possible in blazoning. A very memorable, enjoyable afternoon.
