200 Years ago today

 On March 24th 2024, Lyon Clerk  Edward William Auriol Drummond-Hay, later also for two years secretary to the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland matriculated his arms; the arms are those of his cousin, Earl of Kinnoull and Lord Lyon, differenced by a bordure Gules.


The blazon was:
Quarterly: 1st and 4th grand quarters ; 1st and 4th azure, an unicorn saliant argent, armed, maned and unguled or, within a bordure of the last charged with eight half-thistles vert impaled and as many half-roses Gules conjoined paleways; 2nd and 3rd argent, three escutcheons gules; 2nd and 3rd grand quarters, 1st and 4th or three bars wavy Gules, surmounted of a scimitar paleways argent, hilted and pomelled of the field, 2nd and 3rd Or, a lion's head erased gules langued azure, within a double-tressure flory-counterflory of the second; the whole within a bordure gules. Crest: a countryman couped at the knees vested gray, waistcoat gules, bonnet azure, bearing on his right shoulder an ox yoke proper.
