Lyon's Farewell to Australia

The title sounds like a lament by Neil Gow .....

Lyon has now completed a gruelling, but I gather enormously enjoyable Lecture Tour of Australia at the invitation of the Australian Heraldry Society and the Scottish Australian Heritage Council. From his daily accounts he has been treated with immense hospitality everywhere he went and many of his hosts and members of his audiences were members of the HSS - like Richard d'Apice AM aih and Dr Richard Num.

On his last full day in Australia, he inspected the Scotland Australian Cairn at Mosman NSW where he was welcomed to the town by the Mayor who is Warden General of the Cairn. The cairn is made from stones from every parish in Scotland, including Glasgow Cathedral's Blackadder Aisle:

Lyon was delighted to meet the sister-in-law of Lyon Robin Blair, Angus Herald. Dr Carol Blair presented him with a bottle of specially bottled Islay Malt with the arms of her husband on it, crested by a Cassowary and beautifully painted by Court Painter, Yvonne Holton.

Farewell to Australia: the Lord Lyon viewed the painting of the "Founding of Australia with Captain Arthur Philip RN, 26th January 1788" which hangs in Parliament House Sydney before he began the journey home after a wonderful trip.

Many thanks to all who made this Lecture Tour such a triumphant success, especially, of course, Lyon himself whose energy and enthusiasm have done so much to spread the popularity and interest of Scottish Heraldry abroad.
