The Burgh of Old Meldrum was granted arms in 1954 but the Community Council also includes the parish of Daviot hence the addition of a stone to represent the Loanhead of Daviot Stone Circle.
The crescent Gules refers to Seton, the boar’s head Gules to Urquhart, the buck’s head to Duff, the pallets Sable come from an ancient seal of Philip de Fedans, an ancestor of Meldrum of Meldrum. The crowned otter refers to Meldrum while the embattled fess represents the Burgh.Old Meldrum was created a Burgh of Barony in 1671 in favour of Adam Urquhart, 2nd of Meldrum. The arms refer to the three notable families, Meldrum, Seton and Urquhart, who have successively been lairds of the lands of Meldrum. The Latin motto "Do well and speak well" was inspired by the "Mean, speak and do well" used by the Urquharts of Meldrum.
The petitioner was the Chairman of the Community Council, HSS Member James Milton.
