21 March 1729: The death in Venice of John Law, the economist sometimes described as the father of finance, who rose to control, then ruin, the economy of France.
The great John Law of Lauriston, the "father of paper money" who in 1716 founded the Banque Générale de France under Louis XV, died in Venice in 1729. His memorial plaque was moved inside San Moisé where it is to be found just inside the door.
