Professor Gillian Black, Linlithgow Pursuivant Extraordinary, gave a splendid lecture in Edinburgh City Chambers on Thursday evening as the fourth event in the Lyon Court's series celebrating the 350th Anniversary of the creation of the Public Register. In a witty and wide-ranging talk, from the 17th century Duchess of Buccleuch to Tintin and Jackie Stewart, Gillian tackled the topic Scottish Heraldry - An Egalitarian Tradition and in the best scholarly tradition was not afraid to attack her own thesis from time to time. It was a most memorable and enjoyable evening - many thanks to the Lord Provost, City Council and to the Royal Company of Merchants who sponsored it.
Here is a photograph of the talk kindly supplied by Ross Manson McEwen.
