On Tuesday 13th September, our duty was to participate in the solemn removal of Her Majesty's coffin from St Giles' Cathedral, in the presence of HRH The Princess Royal. This was a very quiet and moving service: the heralds and pursuivants gathered inside the church, along with the royal chaplains and very few other people apart from the members of the Company of Archers and police guarding the coffin.
The minister said a short prayer and then the Duke of Hamilton removed the Crown of Scotland from the coffin and we led the procession out to the hearse which took the coffin to Edinburgh airport for a flight, accompanied by the Princess Royal and the Dean of the Chapel Royal, to Northolt and thence to Buckingham Palace.
