Brasenose

Many thanks to Dr Peter Juhasz and Professor Jonathan Jones of Brasenose College, Oxford, for their kind hospitality in hosting my chaotic presentation to the Oxford University Heraldry Society and friends last Sunday, as well as to Priscilla Frost, the Society secretary, for assembling such a terrifyingly large and knowledgeable audience.

Here is one of my slides from last Sunday - not a Stuart-related one but highly suitable for today, International Women's Day. On 20 March 1732, Laura Bassi (1711–1778) became the first woman admitted to the Academy of the Institute for Sciences in Bologna. Here she defends her thesis.

The arms are: Left to right: Banzi, Gessi, Rossi, Gioannetti, Gonfaloniere Sampieri, Orsi, Marsili-Rossi, Grassi and Vassé-Pietramelara.
